Lebanese director Ayman Nahle's experimental documentary focuses on Syrian refugees waiting in the coastal city of Izmir, who, after the hardships of arriving in Turkey, are waiting to embark on another journey to Europe. The soundtrack is based on a telephone attempt by Syrian President Hafez al-Assad to speak to Ronald Reagan thirty years earlier. As the director says, “the world is more confused than ever, on the brink of disaster, revealing the face of a smiling catastrophe”.
