The documentary by Maria Kourkouta, co-directed by poet Niki Giannari, focuses on the details of the absurd limbo of migrants in the makeshift camp of Idomeni, following the closure of the so-called Balkan route in 2016. People waiting in lines for food, tea, water, medical care; people waiting to cross the border. Filmed with digital video and 16mm film, and with Lena Platonos on the soundtrack, the documentary does not present migrants as victims, but as individuals with desires who act politically, crossing all kinds of borders. “The dead we forgot, the oaths we swore and the promises we made, the ideas we loved, the revolutions we made, the sacred things we denied, have returned with them”.
