9.5mm PATHE-BABY Projector

9.5mm was an amateur film format that was introduced by the Pathe brothers, in 1922, as part of the comprehensive projection system Pathe-baby, for strictly domestic use. Later they produced a comparable movie camera. In the decades following its appearance, about 300,000 systems were sold, primarily in France and England. Its originality lies in the fact that the specific format had a ‘perforation’ in the center of the film, between frames, providing an enhanced image almost 16mm in size. Its size was chosen from the manufacturing point of view because it could be produced from a strip of 35mm film by dividing the films in thirds and removing the 35mm perforations. A meter of film had 135 frames, while 33 meters (100 feet) included about five minutes of material at 24 ‘frames-per-second’. It belongs to the first manufacturing period, 1922-30 and was donated by Lakis Papastathis.
