JAGUAR (THE)
In the mid-1960s, Filio, the widow of Andreas Kallimanopoulos (one of the heroes of the National Resistance, who was executed in December 1944), comes to Athens from Boston to arrange for a share of her late father’s property to be deeded to her son, who also lives in the US. Andreas’ sister Dimitra welcomes her at the airport and takes her, almost by force, to their family home, where she lives with her husband Ilias and their two daughters. The two women haven’t met since the end of the war, and they have starkly different memories of the events. Dimitra doesn’t consider Filio to be part of the family, after she abandoned them in order to follow an American captain and remarry. Dimitra tries to persuade Filio to relinquish her share of the inheritance. Filio, on the other hand, didn’t remarry, but tried really hard to bring up her son, and doesn’t want to stir up past suffering. However, Dimitra’s insistence on bringing to light events of the past, instead brings to light events that even she herself doesn’t want to admit, such as Andreas’ murder by Kostas, one of the German collaborators that Filio spoke with in order to learn more about her brother’s fate. When Ilias realizes that Dimitra’s behavior is undermining everything that they have been fighting for, he restores balance to the family’s relationships and vindicates Filio.
