Summary Captain Loukas returns to Andros after being away for three years and gets married to Maria, the daughter of captain Andreas, who has waited for him during this time. His first engineer, Zanis, realizes that Rena, the rich girl he loved, is very spoiled and begins to take a second look at Francesca, a poor and modest girl. The ship departs again but runs into rough seas in the English Channel; Zanis is injured and returns to Andros, while Loukas takes the ship to Rotterdam for repairs. Back on the island, the love between Zanis and Francesca grows, provoking Rena’s jealousy and making her give Filippas, a sailor-on-leave who always hated Zanis, the chance to calumniate him to Loukas. The latter, believing that during his absence his friend became his wife’s lover, hastily returns to the island with the aim of killing Zanis. However, he discovers the engagement of Zanis and Francesca, and, with the disclosure of the entire scheme, things are put back in order, and peace reigns.
