Summary A very beautiful but poor island girl, Christina, is in love with a good-looking and rich Athenian, Petros. Christina’s mother suddenly dies, and so the girl cannot go to the meeting they had arranged with Petros. The latter, who isn’t aware of the reason that the date was cancelled, returns to Athens feeling very bitter. Christina follows him and explains to him what happened. Things return to normal, and for a while they relive their love, until, one day Petros disappears without warning, leaving the island girl with inexpressible bitterness.
