Summary A middle-aged butcher, Vangelis, strives to marry off his ugly spinster sister Eftychia to his employee Kleomenis, so that he can, in turn, finally marry Lina, with whom he has been engaged for eight whole years. However, there is a strange other man, Koulis, who contests the hand of Eftychia. He has never seen the spinster before in his life, but he has been informed that she is the possessor of 120,000 sovereigns, and so he wants to marry her in order to hit the jackpot. During a trip to Hydra, Kleomenis is charmed by Eftychia’s pretty niece, Gioula. Meanwhile, Koulis persistently woos Eftychia, but at some point his fiancée appears and puts things straight. As it turns out, the rich woman is actually Gioula, and she is also in love with Kleomenis so he is the one to hit the jackpot after all. Eftychia, however, won’t be left miserable, since she marries Charilaos, her childhood sweatheart, who found her again after so many years.
