Summary In a courtroom, the young lawyer Nikos Mouschountis (Andreas Barkoulis), stands for the industrialist Orestis Valsamis, accusing the officer Dimitris Konstantinou of defamation. The accused kept calling Mouschountis a drug dealer with great intensity, although he lacked the necessary evidence to prove it, something that moves deeply the young attorney. After Konstantinou’s conviction, he undertakes to defend him in the Court of Appeal and achieves to have Valsamis caught red-handed. He then leaves law practice and joins the police force. While being there, he is mild towards the small time criminals, but when the war breaks out, he leaves immediately for the Albanian front, as a lieutenant, where he gets injured. He falls in love with Marina, a nurse, who stands by him, but she is also wounded herself and thus the separate. Nikos keeps fighting ruling a Resistance group. The liberation meets him as a police commander in Thessaloniki. He is still mild toward the harmless crooks and contributes to the unraveling of the case of American journalist Polk, who had been murdered by the people who would take him to meet Vafeiadis. He gets to find Marina again, who has become a whore and works at a nightclub under the name Viky and doesn’t recognize him. He listens to her sad story, tries to encourage her and leaves her, only to return to his office and die. His last desire, proclaiming his exemplary personality, concerned the fulfillment of certain unaccomplished commitments towards his fellow men.
