Summary A young composer of symphonic music, Aris, makes a bet with himself that he will commit suicide if, within a month, he doesn’t hear Aphrodite utter the word “passion”. Aphrodite is a beautiful French woman, who survived a plane crash on the day that his first record was released, twelve years ago. Like a good chess-player, he starts his quest for Aphrodite using standard chess stratagems. In the meantime, we also see him play chess with a Japanese player, who has made a similar vow: to earn the trust of Aphrodite’s husband, Gregoire, a fifty-year-old chronicler of the May ’68 generation. Games of life, fate and coincidence, all against the background of cosmopolitan Paris.
