MAN WHO HAD FUN (THE)

Lazaros is a rich man who likes to party and have fun, and who has been idling away his life without ever knowing what it means to work. Now, he is informed by his accountant that his inheritance has been almost entirely exhausted. At first, he tries to win money at the casino, but instead he loses even the negligible savings of his naïve chauffeur, Zacharias. Given his difficult situation, he decides to turn to friends and acquaintances for help. First he tries Nantia the singer, who, however, throws him out of her dressing room. Then follows his friend Iraklis, who also proves to be completely ungrateful, as he refuses to give him back the money he had previously borrowed. Last on his list, the charitable Mrs. Olympia, who grasps the opportunity to throw herself at him, putting poor Lazaros to flight. A beautiful florist, Stefania, however, decides to stand by him, and Lazaros, for her sake, gets a job and, for the first time in his life, earns a living through the sweat of his brow. When he finally manages to mend his ways and no longer views life as a joke, he finds out that his poverty was not real at all, but that it had been a plot hatched by his father before he died in order to put some sense into his son.
