FOR WHOM THE BELL RINGS
A clever employee of a shoe factory, Kostas, manages to help his boss, Tolis Lampirikos, who is deeply in debt, by advising him to fake his own suicide. His accomplices are his wife Flora and his daughter Aliki. He keeps Tolis in a shack, from which he only emerges at the agreed-upon ringing of a cowbell. His alleged death is front page news in all the newspapers; the creditors stop pressing him, his debtors pay up, and orders are doing much better. In the end, the Lampirikos shoe factory is saved. Things, however, get complicated when one of his suppliers asks to marry Lampirikos’ widow, but the very cunning Kostas “resurrects” Tolis, and wins over Aliki, for the sake of whom he performed all these maneuvers.
