Summary Giakoumis, a worker in a shipyard, loves Eleni, whose mother, as usually happens, wants her to marry a rich groom. The typically mercenary Grantis, who knows that Giakoumis has a rich uncle in America, approaches him with the intention of having Giakoumis marry his daughter Kitty. One day, uncle Iordanis arrives from America and is completely taken by Giakoumis’ simplicity and straightforward manner – and thus sees in him a worthy successor. Giakoumis is now in position to ask his beloved to marry him, but Grantis intrigues against this possibility in any way he can and succeeds in separating them. When Eleni is taken to a hospital after a car accident, Giakoumis is informed of the truth, breaks up with Kitty and gets engaged to Eleni, with the wholehearted support of his uncle.
