REVOLUTIONARY (THE)

In the late 19th century, in the Ionian islands (specifically Zante), there is social discrimination between the rich nobles who owe the biggest part of the land and the common bourgeois. A summer in Bochali, at count Dimaras’ farm, his pretty and spoilt daughter Elda (Betty Livanou), bored of her two stupid cousins, lets a charming bourgeois law student, Zepos Pemponaris (Kostas Prekas), to get close to her. Returning to the city, Zepos, who thinks that Elda loves him and doesn’t approve of the social discriminations, commits the tragic mistake to salute her in public- a consulting gesture, among the noble circles. The social outcry and count’s Dimaras vow to revenge force Zepos to leave for Athens. However, love gives him strength and courage to return and confront the noble class, and finally, win the countess he loves.
