WOMEN’S CRY
Posterior title: ANOTHER MEDEA
A film adaptation of Minos Volonakis’ theatrical production of Euripides’ Medea. A famous Greek actress named Maya (Melina Merkouri) returns to Greece to play in a modern version of Medea. During her preparations, she considers the case of an American child murderess by the name of Brenda Collins (Ellen Burstyn), who killed her three little kids in Glyfada to get back at her unfaithful husband and who is now serving a life sentence in Korydallos prison. She meets Collins and slowly wins her trust. With time, Maya develops a deeply emotional relationship with Brenda, during which the two women bond in order to better understand the act of murdering one’s own children – in life and theater.
