Summary Good-natured Giorgos Chatzigeorgalas finds himself in prison, with a ten-month sentence, and he confides his pain to the warden. Having read Casanova’s memoirs, and deeply influenced by the rogue’s personality, he leaves Farsala and comes to Athens with the dream of becoming a true philanderer. He finds a cousin of his and gets a job at his taverna. However, he soon has it out with the butcher, Panagos, whose sister, Julia, is his cousin’s fiancée, and so he takes off. Afterwards, he goes to his other cousin, who finds him a job as a bouncer at a hotel in downtown Athens. Mitsy and Susie, two ladies to whom his cousin introduces him, pretend to be in love with him, convincing him that he is an irresistible Don Juan. His giddiness at this sudden erotic popularity prevents him from realizing that his cousin is the leader of a gang of perfume smugglers, whose members included the two aforementioned ladies - until the police arrest them all, and George winds up in prison again. After this episode, he is visited by Julia, who has fallen in love with him and who has convinced Panagos to pay his bail so that they can marry.
