14 AAGFF - Reframing Images Competition Section | Open Call

Following the great success of last year’s edition, the Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival (AAGFF) returns for its 14th year, from 3 to 17 December 2025, reaffirming its role as a key platform for bold, innovative, and boundary-pushing cinema.

Organized by the Greek Film Archive, the Festival will once again take place in its two central screening rooms, with selected programs also available online at online.tainiothiki.gr.

Celebrating pioneering cinematic voices from around the world, the AAGFF remains a vital meeting point for contemporary and experimental filmmaking, offering a rich and dynamic program that expands the language of cinema.

At the heart of the program are two competition sections spotlighting contemporary and experimental cinema:

- International Competition
Featuring bold and contemporary cinematic voices from around the world.

- Reframing Images
Returning for the second consecutive year in collaboration with ARTWORKS, this section focuses on more visual-art inspired and hybrid cinematic forms. It showcases first and second feature films, as well as short and medium-length works — regardless of whether it is the creator’s first or second film.

The ARTWORKS Best Film Award is generously supported by Katherine Embiricos, executive producer of numerous internationally acclaimed documentaries. The award recognizes fresh, boundary-pushing approaches to filmmaking.

ARTWORKS was founded in 2017 with a founding grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), which to date remains a lead donor, actively supporting the entire scope of its activities.

AUTHORWAVE, a valuable festival partner, once again offers free post-production services worth €7,000 to the winner of the International Competition.

Reframing Images Competition - Jury Composition

The three-member jury that will select the filmmaker to be awarded will be made up of people who have been awarded in the past by ARTWORKS in the framework of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Artists Support Programme, precisely in order to strengthen the contact of the new generation of creators/artists with the Greek Film Archive and the Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival. The composition of the committee will be decided by the festival's organisation.
