Shortly before the departure of the Greek ships for Troy, as they are anchored in Aulis due to apnea, the seer Calchas foretells that the gods will send a favorable wind to their sails only if Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter, Iphigenia. Agamemnon is forced to call his daughter from Argos under the pretext that he is going to marry her to Achilles. Iphigenia arrives with her mother Clytemnestra, who, when she learns the truth, tries in vain to convince her husband... Papas is the desperate Clytemnestra in the completion of Euripides' Trilogy according to Cacoyannis, confronted with the imposing Kostas Kazakos/Agamemnon, protector of the innocent Iphigenia/Tatiana Papamoschou, and comforter of Achilles/Panos Mihalopoulos, who makes his first and best cinematic appearance here. Awards for Best Film and Best Actress (Papamoschou) at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, participation in the official competition at Cannes, nomination for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
